Plants

What's in the garden?

Nigella Damascena
A plant with many great names: Love-in-the-mist; the ragged lady; devil in the bush. Self seeding wonderful flowering plant. The seeds are edible and the less attractive Çörel otu gives it seeds here to decorate and enhance börek.

Calendula / marigolds.
From calendae meaning calendar. Are traditionally used as culinary and medicinal herbs and the petals can be added to salads or used to colour cheese.

Cosmos
My cosmos did not appear (yet).

Lemon Beebrush
Also known as lemon verbena and the one I have is Aloysia citrodora. The leaves can be used to make lemony tea and to add a lemon flavour to other dishes.

Artichoke
The first year we had 3 heads the first year and 8 this year. Apparently the plant can live for ten or more years and will get progressively more generous each year. We left 1 to flower in 2016 - see the blog posts for stunning images.

Tomotoes
So many varieties I don't know which are which. Many self seeded over the last three years.

Basil

Rosemary
At least two varieties.

Grape vine
I wonder which type it is. Green grapes is all we know.

Lavendar
Two varieties

Honeysuckle

Jasmine

Wisteria
We planted two in 2016 and one reflowered already.

Sweetpeas
After no shows for two years, I planted them in pots away from snails and slugs. It did the trick and this year several are blooming.

Clematis montana
An early flowering species. Which is wonderful because you receive flowers very early in the year. But then it lies dormant until the following spring.
